Chery Automobile Co., Ltd. was founded in 1997 in the city of Wuhu (Anhui province) and has evolved into a manufacturer with strong export activity. It invests in vertical integration (engines, gearboxes, platforms) and international R&D centers, aiming for technological independence and the ability to adapt to different markets. In 2024, it recorded an increase in global sales of around 38% (reaching 2.6 million vehicles), confirming its commercial momentum.
Chery’s European strategy (Omoda, Jaecoo, Chery)
The brand’s European plan includes a base in the Iberian Peninsula, with vehicle assembly in Barcelona in cooperation with a local partner (production is scheduled to start in Q4 2025).
At the same time, the group is expanding its portfolio in Europe with the Omoda and Jaecoo brands (both recently launched in Greece), covering a wide range of segments — from mainstream to more premium/off-road models.
Greece: representation and network
In the Greek market, the import and distribution of Chery vehicles has been undertaken by Spanos Group, initially with a small nationwide sales and after-sales service network.
The Chery range in Greece includes three SUVs:
- The Tiggo 4, a compact hybrid SUV with 204 hp and a starting price of €22,990, ideal for urban and family use.
- The Tiggo 7, a mid-size SUV available with 1.6 TGDI 147 PS or plug-in hybrid 279 PS engines, starting at €28,490, distinguished by its equipment and build quality.
- The Tiggo 8, the flagship of the lineup, a seven-seater SUV with a spacious and refined cabin, power up to 279 PS, and a starting price of €32,990.
With a 7-year warranty and advanced safety systems, Chery enters the Greek market dynamically, offering a complete and highly competitive SUV range.
For Omoda and Jaecoo, which also belong to the Chery Group, distribution and support are run by O&J Automotive Hellas S.A., part of the Emil Frey group, with its own dedicated showrooms and service coverage. The two-channel setup clarifies brand roles and helps scale availability as the range expands.
Thus, the Chery ecosystem in Greece operates through two channels, each with distinct roles per brand.
Product positioning and technology
Chery’s range in Greece focuses on SUV models and electrified versions, emphasizing energy efficiency, ADAS systems, and modern infotainment. The company develops its own platforms as well as hybrid technologies under the umbrella name “Super Hybrid System”, which promises extended driving range. The goal is to strengthen its position in European markets and align its product specifications with the expectations and standards of European customers.
