From Swatch and Mercedes to the new Geely era
The story of smart began in the mid-1990s, when Mercedes-Benz collaborated with Swatch founder Nicolas Hayek to create a small city car. The result was the smart fortwo, presented in 1998, which redefined urban mobility. Today, smart is a joint venture between the German Mercedes-Benz and China’s Geely Holding, one of the largest car manufacturers in China. Geely provides the electric platform and technological infrastructure, while Mercedes-Benz maintains control of the design and premium character. The result is a new lineup of models combining German quality with Chinese technology.

smart in Greece: Representation and network
In Greece, smart is represented by Star Automotive Hellas, a subsidiary of the Mercedes-Benz Group. It manages the sales network and the authorized service centers, with presence in Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras, Heraklion, and Larissa. smart in Greece offers a fully digital experience through smartgreece.gr, with the possibility to configure models, book test drives, choose financing programs, and get information about state subsidies. Customers are served by smart centers with certified EV technicians and expertise in electromobility.
The new lineup: From compact to mature SUV
The new electric range of smart includes the smart #1, smart #3, and smart #5. The smart #1 is a compact electric SUV, with a length of 4.27 meters, range up to 440 km (WLTP), 800V technology, and award-winning design (Red Dot Award). The smart #3 offers a sportier look, with coupe-SUV body style, up to 428 hp, and all-wheel drive in the BRABUS versions. Its interior is reminiscent of Mercedes, with low consumption below 17 kWh/100 km.The new smart #5, with a 100 kWh battery and range up to 620 km, has an adventurous design, all-wheel drive, and combines Geely’s mature technology with the Mercedes-Benz design identity.
