Sumitomo is the parent company for the Falken, Dunlop and Sumitomo brands.
It has a broad and diverse business portfolio (one of which is tyres).
It brings 112 years (since 1913) of tyre manufacturing expertise.
It recently brought the Dunlop brand back into its portfolio (ushering in a new era in Europe).
Among its stars is Falken (with a production line and R&D for Europe).
In Greece, STS S.A. is the official distributor of Falken & Dunlop (for passenger and commercial).
From Japan to the world – and into Europe
Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI), one of the largest Japanese tyre groups, with a history dating back to 1913, is strengthening its position in Europe and Greece, bringing two iconic brands—Falken and Dunlop—under its umbrella. Today it ranks among the world’s leading manufacturers, active in 120+ countries, with factories on 4 continents and more than 40,000 employees.
A new era with the big Dunlop deal
As of January 2025, Goodyear transferred to Sumitomo Rubber the Dunlop trademark rights for Europe, North America and Oceania. The agreement provides for a transition period until 31 December 2025, during which Goodyear will continue to manufacture and distribute Dunlop tyres in Europe on behalf of SRI, with the possibility of sourcing for a further five years on selected lines. This development fully unifies the Dunlop brand under the Japanese SRI, which already held the rights in Asia since the 1960s.
Falken Tyre Europe: technology, network, marketing
Falken Tyre Europe GmbH, headquartered in Offenbach, Germany, is SRI’s European arm for technology, network and marketing. Falken (est. 1983) is among the fastest-growing manufacturers in Europe, with presence in 8,000+ points of sale and a production line in Turkey.

Dunlop (with R&D from racing, premium performance on the road)
Following the 2025 agreement, Dunlop returns under SRI’s full management in Europe, gaining a unified global identity. It remains synonymous with driving precision and racing performance, with lines such as:
- Sport Maxx RT2 / RT2 SUV: UHP for sports cars and crossovers.
- Winter Sport 5: top performance on snow and wet.
- Grandtrek AT / HT / WT: for SUV & 4×4, with emphasis on durability and comfort.
- Sport All Season: 4-season tyre, ideal for mild European climates.
Dunlop’s active presence in car and motorcycle racing feeds R&D data into its commercial lines, improving them continuously.
Presence in Greece: Falken & Dunlop by STS
In the Greek market, Super Tire Service (STS S.A.) is the commercial representative, the official distributor of Falken for Greece and Cyprus.
Falken also maintains a local team in Greece overseeing marketing, technical support and network partnerships. After the transfer of Dunlop rights to SRI, STS is also taking on the commercial representation of Dunlop in Greece. This creates a unified presence of two brands: Falken and Dunlop.
